STEM Students Qualify for Regional ChampionshipEach year, the Flagler Schools STEM Academy participates in the FIRST LEGO League competition. This is a global competition, affiliated with the FIRST Tech Challenge, which allows students to engage in hands-on STEM experiences. Students build confidence and knowledge while experiencing the excitement of complex problem solving in a supportive team environment.

Three Wadsworth STEM student teams participated in the Northeast Florida league competition in Palatka on February 5th. All of our teams qualified to move on to the Regional Championship, which will be held in Ocala on February 26th!

Our Teams
  • The Platinum team received first place in the Core Values category. The team presented a 30-minute "Medic Drone" robotics project, which demonstrated the core values of discovery, innovation, impact, fun, teamwork, and inclusion.

  • The Chromium team earned the first place award in the Innovation category. In this category, teams create an innovative solution to a global community problem. This year's problem was cargo transportation, and The Chromium team's creative solution was a submarine named the “Cargo Sub.”

  • The Titanium team earned the second place award for their Innovation category project. The team designed a reusable pizza box to transport pizza more efficiently and safely.

Last year three teams from WES advanced to the state championship, and one team advanced to the world championship. We hope to continue this trend this year!

We are proud of our students for all the hard work they they have done on each day of this journey. Please wish them good luck at the regional competition!
